Possibilities

Winding down tonight.

Today we did a lot of scanning and we did our final review. I know it’s a little like drinking from a firehouse but the students here are so diligent and not afraid to ask questions. Just in our class we’ve been able to show the practical importance of using ultrasound by discovering a term breech presentation, late preterm twins that were breech (the twins were a surprise to us altogether!) and a late preterm oligohydramniks. We referred all of them to Bo Government hospital.

It’s amazing how quickly the students are learning and how eager they are to learn more. Since our time here is short, our team will still be requiring that they upload their scans and we’ll review them and provide feedback from afar until they’ve done a sufficient number of scans to feel competent and comfortable.

After training we walked 2mi to our farm and little house out in the village. I love it there. It’s so peaceful and quiet surrounded by plantain, mango, banana, orange, papaya and cacao trees. Far away from the hustle and bustle. I hope in a couple years I can come back with my family and stay awhile, practicing medicine in Gbaiima/Bo and immersing my kids in a culture and place I only learned from my mother.

Well, tomorrow’s our last day of training!
