Walk With Me
Tough.
The children of Sierra Leone are really freakin tough.
We’re in the last week of our fundraiser to get school transportation for children living in the rural areas near Bo so that - 1. They can continue their education and go to high school, which is 15mi away and 2. They can go to middle school without having to walk 4.5 ONE WAY, which they do every school day.
I decided this last week that I would try and do what the kids do, walk 9miles a day (4.5 in the morning and 4.5 in the evening), and I’m these feet are TIRED. I’m so exhausted, I already feel like quitting. It’s crazy to think that these kids have been doing this for years. In the heat, in the rain, often times only eating one meal a day, and all for what?
To be educated.
They’re so tough, so dedicated, so committed to a brighter future and I can’t help but be humbled by the strength of their soul to overcome and persevere.
I know we’ve got a long way to go help them reach their goals without so many hurdles. But we’ll be walking with them for as long as it takes.
Thank you for walking with us on this journey.
