Getting There Part 2

Morocco

Upon landing in Casablanca we had a decision to make. Sit in the airport for 13+ hours or take a moment to experience a piece of this culturally diverse North African city. Our adventure started by visiting an old French cathedral.

And to end the cultural excursion, we visited the 7th largest mosque in the world the Hassan II Mosque, whose minaret is the 2nd tallest in the world at 210 meters. Returning to the airport, we boarded a red eye flight bound for Freetown and arrived around 3 in the morning.

Land Cruiser

Freetown to Bo

We loaded all the baggage that managed to arrive into two old fashion land cruisers. We then drove for 4 hours through the night to our first destination, a farm in Foya. To get there requires a 30 minute walk through mild jungle and marshy wetlands. At times we waded through the muddy jungle water that comprised the trail in bare feet to save our shoes for later.

The rural landscape of Foya farm stands in stark contrast to modern cityscape of Casablanca. This farm grows Cacao but is still in it’s early stages. By this time, we had slept only a few hours over the past two days but pressed on to take advantage of this opportune detour on our way to our lodging in Bo. Before we could rest, however, we had one last stop to make in the village of Baima.
