Community Welcome
After we were done for the day, we went to Gbaiima to explain to the community the work that we’re doing and the Midwives of Ministries of Service (MOMS) gave us a warm welcome. They are part of the heart of this program as they are the direct link to the pregnant women in the villages and will be integral to the maternal/birth waiting home that we’re planning! They’re a tremendous group of women. We explained the utility of using ultrasound to help screen for high-risk conditions and how their help is vital to ensure women know that this service is free, provided locally and should be completed at least once during their pregnancy.
There was so much positive energy surrounding this meeting. It reminded how embedded we are in the community. This is where my grandmother is from, where her sister (my mom’s aunt) still lives as a women’s leader in the community. They are all excited and ready for us to work with them, so that we can help each other be successful. It’s wonderful, truly a blessing. Tenki
